PUSS IN BOOTS by Bob Heather

Puss in Boots by Hanney Drama Group, coming in February 2026!

Can Puss in Boots and Mark the miller's son find a solution to help the villagers to pay another increase on their taxes to the evil Squire Skweezum? Does the arrival of the King and Queen help or hinder their cause, or will they all end up in the Castle Dungeons?

Thoughts from our new cast members:

The Hanney Pantomime is at the very heart of Hanney Community. Well, we think so, but it’s not just us. Our new members who have recently moved to the area see the Panto as an opportunity to immerse themselves in the community and have a lot of fun while they do so:

Andy Bell, Squire Squeezums‘We (Andy and partner Eva Dring) saw the Hanney Pantomime last year and saw how much fun it was for both cast and audience. So, when the casting call appeared on Facebook (FB) and Hanney News (HN) – we answered the call.’

Andy is an accomplished musician, and as well as being this season’s panto villain, he can be seen playing with folk groups in various locations including our very own Black Horse.

Eva Dring, Villager 4 ‘When we moved here last year we were looking for an opportunity to join in. The panto seemed the ideal vehicle to get involved and have fun.'

Eva is well placed to judge, with a wealth of experience in both amateur theatre and musical events. She knows a thing or two about a lot of subjects (we are hoping to thoroughly pick her marketing brain), and with a job title of Director of Academic Affairs, for a cyber college, you have to be impressed.

Anna Orme, Chorus -  When Simon and I got married a couple of years ago, we chose to settle in West Hanney and immediately looked for ways to get involved with the community. We saw the invitation to the open evening in June this year on FB and gave it a go. The evening was so full of fun (It was a riot – look out for it next year!) we did not hesitate to sign up, when the show was cast.’

Although Anna has next to no stage experience, she has wanted to do this for a long time and even dreams of being on stage (here’s your chance, Anna) and forgetting her lines (that won’t happen).

Simon Orme, Villager 2 – Simon is another talented musician who has played guitar in bands for 40 years. ‘When Anna and I went along to the open evening, we thought it was enormous fun. I didn’t audition for a specific part, I didn’t really mind what I did. I just wanted to be part of something entertaining. Pantos are happy experiences.'

With this level of enthusiasm, I think our award-winning chorus is in good hands!
